7 Family Friendly Things To Do Around Vegas
7 Family Friendly Things To do Around Las Vegas | By Rachel Howat
As it warms up in Vegas, there are so many fun places around the valley to take your kids! Ever since my boys were born we’ve been exploring the area and I think there is no shortage of fun things to do in town. Here are a few ideas to get your kids out of the house:
Lee Canyon- We live in NW Vegas, and driving 40 minutes into the mountains is the perfect escape from the desert. There are plenty of places to explore around Lee Canyon and Mount Charleston. I recommend going to Lee Meadows or the Birch trees at the Mary Jane Falls trail head.
Lake Mead & Boulder Beach- This is my absolute favorite place to go in town. I’ve taken my boys countless times and it’s worth the drive across town! They love to throw rocks and play in the water at Boulder Beach. After that, we drive over to the marina to see fish and ducks. The entrance fee is $25, but an annual pass is only $45 which is covered after only two visits!
Discovery Children’s Museum- If you love fun and chaos, this is the place for you! Be warned there is a lot to do here and it’s very easy to get lost. The admission fee for locals is $13.50/person, however you can reserve a pass through the local library to get a family of four in for free!
Library- My kids are a while away from learning to read, but they love visiting the library. It can be hard to find specific books, so I like to reserve books ahead of time and pick them up when we get there. I’ll do whatever I can to avoid a meltdown because Mom couldn’t find a Paw Patrol book! Check your local branch to see what events they have for your child’s age group!
Uptown Jungle- Uptown Jungle is a fun place full of slides, trampolines, and lots of stuff for the kids! On Monday and Wednesday mornings, there is a special discounted rate for families with children age five and under. The first child is $10, any after that are $5, and parents are free!
Cold Creek- Just a little north of Lee Canyon up I-95, Cold Creek is a tiny creek out in the middle of nowhere. There are beautiful views of the desert and a little creek to explore. Be warned- there’s no bathroom! I’ve only gone with diapered toddlers, so we’ll see if I’m brave enough to go back with my newly potty-trained boys. Going just past the fire station in Cold Creek, look for the trees and shrubs and you’ll find the creek!
Road Trip to St. George- I cannot go on enough about how much I love taking my kids to St. George for a day trip! It’s an easy two hours away and there’s so much to do. We always visit the Red Hills Desert Garden, St. George Children’s Museum ($5/person), Town Square Park, and Thunder Junction Park. Thunder Junction has a train (that costs $1/person) and my all-time favorite splash pad!
We are always taking adventures as a family no matter how hot it is. I hope some of our favorite things to do around Vegas will become some of your favorite things too!
