You Have Heard It Said… But I Tell You
Several times in Matthew 5, Jesus uses this frame: “You have heard it said… But I tell you…”Let’s apply that frame to Canyon Ridge with these last 6 months as the time Jesus is saying something new. What is He saying? The first part of each statement wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t ALL he was up to. What’s he up to now? As we listen to God, listen to one another, listen to the Bible, and look around our lives and situation, we get a chance to explore what God is up to! And we ALWAYS want in on what He is up to. Here are four possible frames to get us started. Finish each sentence in the comments with what you and the people around you are hearing from God. Or start another frame.
You have heard it said that church is where the kingdom grows, but I tell you…You have heard it said that teaching is how we learn, but I tell you…You have heard it said that we need to bring people into our community, but I tell you…You have heard it said that church is where we get what we need, but I tell you…Do this!
