Friendships That Shape Us

The people around us influence our lives in big ways. Whether we realize it or not, the company we keep impacts how we think, speak, and act. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” God designed us to grow through relationships—encouraging, challenging, and shaping one another into who He created us to be.

Here are four key takeaways about the power of friendships:

  • The Right People Make All the Difference - We all need people in our corner who push us toward Jesus. The best friendships aren’t just about having fun—they help us grow. Who in your life encourages you to become more like Christ?

  • Honest Conversations Build Strong Relationships - Real friendships require vulnerability. When we’re open about our struggles, victories, and doubts, we create space for meaningful connections. Are there areas of your life where you need to invite trusted friends in?

  • Faith Grows in Community - God never meant for us to follow Him alone. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” Being in community strengthens our faith and reminds us we’re not alone.

  • Who We Walk With Shapes Our Future - The people we surround ourselves with will either lead us closer to Jesus or pull us away. Choosing friendships wisely is one of the most important decisions we make. Who in your life helps you stay focused on God’s plan?

Friendships matter. They shape our character, influence our decisions, and impact our faith. If we want to live fully in who God has called us to be, we need people who sharpen and challenge us in the right ways.
