Are Your Possessions Really Yours?

Have you ever found yourself tightly holding onto your possessions, feeling anxious about losing or sharing them? Perhaps your belongings started as comforts or conveniences but have slowly taken control, defining your security and identity. It can feel exhausting to manage it all.

But what if everything you own isn't truly yours?

In Acts 4:32-35, early followers of Jesus saw everything they had not as personal property, but as resources entrusted to them by God. They lived with open hands, freely and joyfully sharing their possessions to meet each other's needs. Their lives demonstrated a powerful freedom that came from understanding one crucial truth: everything belongs to God.

What could shift in your life if you adopted the same perspective?

Here are practical steps you can take to live this out:

  1. Believe Deeply:
Remind yourself regularly that everything you have actually belongs to God, entrusted to your care.

  2. Share Widely:
Ask God consistently, "Who do you have in mind for the things you’ve given me?"

  3. Give Financially:
Intentionally and consistently give a portion of your resources away to remind yourself of God's ownership.
