5 Ways To Grow More Aware Of Your Gifts

The world seems to say you can be diverse or united, but people of God are both diverse and united - bringing all differences to One God by one shared calling. But what are the diverse gifts Christ has given to His people?

Ephesians 4:7, 11-13 says, "Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ."

Apostle- One who is SENT and SCALES – IMPACT (pioneer)

Prophet - One who REVEALS and REFORMS – INTEGRITY (authentic)

Evangelist - One who EXCITES and INVITES – INCLUSION (invitational)

Shepard - One who PROTECTS and PROVIDES – INVESTMENT (healing)

Teacher- One who EXPLAINS and TRAINS – INSTRUCTION (wise)

This is part of God's brilliant plan for maturity living into the tension of unity and diversity. Not easy, but brilliant, because all gifts are necessary. Here are 5 ways to grow in your awareness of your gifts:

  1. Identify: Gather some people, look at God's Word, and get curious! What gifts do you see in yourself and the people around you?

  2. Practice: If discovery requires action and experience, how can you put your gifts into practice?

  3. Connect: If gifts are meant to equip God's people to do His work, how can you use your gifts to serve and connect in meaningful ways?

  4. Diversify: Who are people you can surround yourself with who have different gifts to lean on, learn from, and sharpen?

  5. Influence: How will you express your gifts to show up well to the people around you?

As you grow your awareness of your giftedness, the better you will show up to the people around you. Self-awareness requires the company of people - discovering, practicing, and acting together with the power to live into experiences to show up with Jesus everywhere you go.
