Uncommon People | May 29, 2022 | Two Feet In

Every parent knows how important obedience is to a relationship. When your children obey you, it shows how much they love and respect you. It's the same in your relationship with God! When you take what you learn from him and put it into action, you show him how much you love him. The uncommon change Jesus is offering you warrants an uncommon response. Take what you learn and put it into action!

• Acts 2:42 NLT- 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

• John 14:15 NLT - 15 “If you love me, obey my commandments.

• John 15:9-12 NLT - 9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.

• Matthew 7:24-27 NLT - 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Discovering What God Is Saying

+ Read and Retell the Bible Story

• One person reads the story out loud to the group.
• Someone else in the group retells the story in their own words as they remember it, and others fill in what’s missing.

• Read the passage again (different version if possible)
• What does this passage say about God, Jesus, or His plan?

• Have 1-2 more people retell the story as if they were telling a neighbor outside their home.

• What in me needs to change to better DO what God is showing me today?
• How will you respond to/obey this passage in a tangible, perhaps even costly ways in the next 48-72 hours?
