What Is Child Dedication?
Child Dedication is your chance to to celebrate and thank God for the gift of your children. It’s also a time for you, as parents, to commit to model what following Jesus looks like and find a community of others who will help you along the way. Here are 3 reasons why child dedication matters:
Spiritual Foundation: Proverbs 22:6 says, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” Your role as a parent and a guardian for your child is to be a disciple-maker - helping them understand what the Gospel is and what it means to live according to the Gospel. Child dedication means committing to not having all the answers, but rather committing to a lifetime of discovery in Jesus’ direction.
Community Support: The journey of parenthood is both filled with great joy and great challenge. Dedicating a child is a communal act, committing to show up with and for one another as you navigate raising a child in Jesus’ direction. It’s a beautiful image of the Church - the community of God’s people. You alone don’t make this commitment; you make this commitment with the support, encouragement, and prayers of the church you’re a part of!
Celebrate Together: Child dedication is a huge celebration! This is a beautiful opportunity to invite and gather your people from all different areas of life to celebrate together. It also opens the door for spiritual conversations and meaningful connections with the people in your life!
Child dedication is a testament to the Church’s commitment to raising a generation who knows and walks with God as they become disciple-makers who make disciples.
