Humility: A Posture of Trust
In a world that praises uplifting oneself and striving to win, humility is unpopular at best. Many people prioritize their own comforts, whether emotional or physical, instead of following God's call to be humble. However, followers of Jesus believe that your calling supersedes your comfort.
1 Peter 5:5b teaches, "...Dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'" Do you trust God when it's time to submit to him and his plan? When the world is unjust and unkind, do you live as if he is in charge and you are not? A humble posture is one that voluntarily cooperates with God, trusting that he is in control. Sometimes, this means submitting to people in worldly authority, because God may be up to something that is not yet clear.
When you humble yourself before God, the people around you will notice. Your posture will contrast that of the rest of the world, causing others to realize your hope. Does your posture reveal that God is in charge?
