How To Identify What Your Next Step Is As A Disciple-Maker

The 4 Fields is a helpful framework derived from Mark 4:1-20 that models how Jesus encountered people, shared the Gospel, and invited people to partner with him in sharing the Gospel. Let’s break down the 4 fields:

  • The first field is the GO field. In Mark 4, this is the farmer going out to scatter seed. Jesus would go to places where people had never heard of him or his Kingdom. This field in your life is the people who are close to you but far from God.

  • The second field is the GOSPEL field. Jesus would share with people, “I am Jesus and I have come to show you a different way to live,” inviting people to hear and experience the kind of transformation found in him. This field is where you practice your transformation story and the 3 Circle Gospel, sharing these tools with the people in your life.

  • The third field is the GROW field. As people begin to follow Jesus’ way, people grow to become more and more like him. This is represented by the different kinds of soil in Mark 4, including the good soil who hears God’s Word and shares it with others! This looks like rallying your people and gathering in groups where you discover, do, and share what God says through his Word! One great way to do this is by walking alongside others through a Discover Bible Study (DBS).

  • The fourth field is the GATHER field. As people would grow as disciples of Jesus, he would gather them and send them back out into the fields - to go, to share the Gospel, to grow, and to gather to send them out. This is a life characterized by the Great Commission, partnership, and risky sharing! Who are the people in your life you can partner with in the Gospel?

Go. Gospel. Grow. Gather. Repeat. It’s helpful to note that the 4 Fields is inseparable from the Healthy Church Framework. Why? Because a healthy church modeled from the Acts 2 church lives in the 4 fields of Go, Gospel, Grow, and Gather.
