How To Enhance Your Quiet Time With God With The Kairos Journal

Whether it’s a New Year’s resolution or a refreshed daily rhythm, God invites everyone to continue making space for meaningful time with him! While there are limitless practices and tools, one great one in particular is called the Daily Kairos Journal.

But, first, you may be wondering what kairos means. The Daily Kairos team describes their intention for naming this tool as such:

“The ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos and kairos. Chronos is where we get the word “chronological” and refers to sequential time. It’s a quantitative measure of time. Kairos on the other hand isn’t quantitative, it’s qualitative. Kairos describes an opportune time or moment. From Greek kairos ‘the suitable or appropriate time for something to occur or for something to be accomplished’. A moment in time or a timeframe in which God makes it possible for something of lasting importance or significance to happen. “We believe that God doesn’t want to fit into a limited time and that our relationship with Him isn’t defined by simply a morning devotional. Instead, we believe in living in constant communication with God - and in doing so, experiencing more “kairos moments.” This is exactly why this journal was created - to help you recognize and live in more Kairos Moments with God.”

This journal has 4 main movements to it: memorizing Scripture, gratitude, intention, and reflection. Let’s break it down:

  1. Memorizing Scripture - Have you ever wondered why people memorize Scripture? While memorizing Scripture practically helps people stay in God’s Word and take it to heart, it’s also incredibly valuable when it comes to sharing Scripture with the people in your life! Maybe a friend who is resistant to the Gospel is going through a difficult time - how can God speak through you by his Word?

  2. Gratitude - Gratitude is a way to open people up to relational connection; and the same is with you towards God! This is why the simple practice of daily gratitude is vital for the space of prayer. As you continue in God’s Word, tell God how you’re experiencing the truth of his Word in your own life.

  3. Intention - The Daily Kairos invites your intention for the day. This helps you stay centered, expectant, and attentive to what God might be wanting to speak to you throughout the day. This daily practice of setting intentions will help you live intentionally.

  4. Reflection - At the end of the day, the journal helps you look for your Kairos moment. Remember this is a specific time or moment where you witnessed or heard God speak. It’s a daily revelation. As you continue to reflect and collect these kairos moments, you’re awareness will not only heighten or broaden throughout the days, but deepen in intimacy over time.

God doesn’t need our rigid routines - he is ready and waiting to meet with you in every moment of your day.
