Engage With God's Word Through The Three-Column Study

Followers of Jesus discover, do, and share what God says. Here is a simple tool called the Three-Column Study to help you approach God’s Word on your own time, as well as with the people in your life:

As you go through the study along any passage of Scripture, remember these 3 key elements:

  1. Column 1: Write the Scripture passage as it is. What words, phrases, themes, or images are standing out to you?

  2. Column 2: Re-write the passage in your own words. This is helpful to be able to retell and share God’s Word with others, as well as to share perspectives of what God is highlighting to other people if you’re doing this in a group setting!

  3. Column 3: This part asks two questions. One, what do you notice from this passage? Two, what will you do because of this passage? You can respond to this with “In the next 47 hours, I will…” Sharing this with the people you discover God’s Word with will stir up great conversation!

Tools like the Three-Column Study are one of many ways to help you approach, engage, and respond to God’s Word alongside others day to day!
