Back in 1985, Las Vegas was just beginning to boom, and Gene Appel, then senior pastor of Central Christian Church, saw an opportunity to spread hope in the growing city. By 1990, it was clear one church couldn’t reach everyone, so the dream to plant a new church was born.
Gene called Mike Breaux, a passionate leader who initially resisted the idea of moving to Vegas. But during a visit, while overlooking the city’s shimmering lights, Mike felt God’s call to bring hope to the struggling and lost in Las Vegas.
Teaming up with Kevin Odor from Ohio, they embarked on this journey without a blueprint, driven by faith. They transformed racquetball courts into kids' classrooms and baptized people in an Olympic-sized pool. Despite challenges like truck breakdowns and makeshift setups, their determination never wavered.
For the first five years, Canyon Ridge was a “setup and tear down” church, meeting in local gyms and schools. These early struggles forged a strong, resilient community. Over the years, Canyon Ridge became a beacon of hope, a place where people could belong before they believe.
In 2018, Kevin passed the title of Lead Pastor to Drew Moore who shared the founding vision and has a mission to spark a movement of disciples who make disciples with too many generations to count.

Meet Drew Moore, Lead Pastor
Drew Moore has always been about pointing people to life in Jesus. After graduating from Illinois State University in 2000, he began a seven-year run as math teacher, football coach and high school ministry volunteer at Eastview Christian Church. In 2006, he made ministry his vocation as Eastview’s High School Pastor. After completing a Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation at Lincoln Christian University, Drew began at Canyon Ridge in 2012 as Pastor of Student Life, where he served until becoming Lead Pastor in October of 2018. Drew loves the outdoor adventure and spending quality time with his wife Layne and his four kids, Luke, Nina, Miles, and Zeke.
